Review the assignment
To encourage high school students and recent college graduates to consider a career in a science, technology, or engineering, you will research, write, and design a creative job ad promoting the science- or technology-related occupation you have selected.
Refer to the sample job ads and use the research materials you will gather about careers and employers.
Your job ad should be informative, creative, and appealing to your target audience.

Search for company info
- From the career list, pick the government agency, educational institution, or company (listed next to your job title) for which you would like to develop a job ad.
- Use Google to find the company's web site. Get a description of the company and its address from the web site's About or Contact section.
Organize your information
- Refer to the project rubric and design a job ad that will attract a recent student or recent graduate to consider your career.
You may use Word, PowerPoint, or Publisher, but be sure to follow the content and formatting requirements on the rubric. For ideas, see the sample job ad.
To help organize your work, use the job ad template, but be sure to give your ad an appealing layout and design, including eye-catching colors, headline, and images. Use your own words in describing the job. - Check your finished job ad against the checklist.
Cite your sources
- Create a Works Cited page with citations for your career article, the company web site, and any images you used. Citations should be in alphabetical order.
Be sure to keep a record of the sources that provided the information and images you use. The electronic databases provide citation information, which you can copy and paste onto your Works Cited page.
To cite a web site, use the following format:
Format: Web Site Name. URL.
Example: North Hunterdon High School. http://www.nhvweb.net/NHHS/.
To cite an image, use the following format:
Format: Image Title or Description. URL.
Example: McDonald's Logo. http://www.aboutmcdonalds.com.
When citing images, be sure you are citing the actual web site that provided the image; do not cite Google Images as the source.
Reflect on your work
- In a separate document, respond to the reflection questions listed on the checklist.
Submit to the S drive-Completed Work folder
- Submit your job ad, Works Cited page, and reflection questions to your teacher's Completed Work folder on the S drive using the instructions you received in class or by following the steps in the video.
Make sure that you have named your files using this naming pattern:
Pattern: Mods LastName FileName
Examples: 5-6 Studentsky Job Ad
5-6 Studentsky Works Cited
5-6 Studentsky Reflection
